The presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees have both established "joint fundraising committees" that are able to accept contributions well in excess of normal campaign finance limits. These contributions, which can exceed $70,000 per person, are then distributed to national party committees, state party committees, and the candidates' own committees. Individuals may contribute a maximum of $2,300 to John McCain's official committee. Because Barack Obama has opted not to participate in the public funding system for the general election portion of the campaign, individuals may give a maximum of $4,600 to his official committee. Totals for Obama include money raised by the Democratic White House Victory Fund, which was formed by the Democratic National Committee in May to raise money to put the party’s nominee in the White House.

Listed below are contributors who have given at least $25,000 to the candidates' joint fundraising committees. We define these contributors as mega-donors.
